New Partnership Brings Yoga to Club Kids
In partnership with PATH (Providing Access to Healing), a school-based mental health community impact initiative of United Way of Sheboygan County, and Yoga on the Lake, Boys & Girls Clubs helped deliver a series of psycho-educational yoga classes to Club kids this summer!
Regular yoga sessions at our Longfellow Elementary site aimed to teach breathing and relaxation techniques, yoga postures to support wellness, mind-body connection, emotional awareness, and calming strategies.
The classes were a hit with Club kids, who often requested their favorite poses and looked forward to seeing the yoga teachers each week.
“I like doing the half moon pose. It makes you balance and it’s good for when you feel anxious”– KB, Club kid
Yoga on the Lake studio manager and board member, Christine Voice, helped launch the collaboration and even taught a few of the classes. Paige Hoppmann, Director of Mental Health Services at the Club, worked with Christine to launch the project,
“Yoga was a huge success with our members this summer. I would often catch kids practicing techniques and poses at recess during free time. The instructors were patient and found ways for them to be silly and learn at the same time! I am excited to continue this partnership and provide access to yoga and all its benefits to more kids in the coming school year.”
