2 New School Sites Open
After more than 20 years in the Ralph F. and Alice B. Stayer Building, the Boys & Girls Club transitioned programming to several local elementary schools, marking an exciting new era of services.
“Over the course of two decades, thousands of kids ran through the doors at 733 Broadway Avenue,” said CEO Christina Singh. “The location served us well. Now we are broadening our reach with new sites at Cooper and Longfellow Elementary.”
In the fall of 2019, the Boys & Girls Club teamed up with the Sheboygan Area School District to ensure families have more childcare options. The partnership, called KIDSTOP, offers before and after school programming at nearly every elementary school in the district. KIDSTOP programming is provided by the Boys & Girls Club, Community Rec Department and the YMCA. The goal of KIDSTOP is to provide a consistent level of quality with an affordable fee structure.
According to Singh, the focus on school-based sites allows the Clubs to reach kids where they are. “It eliminates transportation issues and maximizes the value of spaces that already exist,” said Singh. With sites at Cooper and Longfellow Elementary as well as Lake Country Academy, Singh anticipates doubling the number of Sheboygan kids served by the Boys & Girls Club.
In addition to school-based sites in Sheboygan, the Boys & Girls Club continues to serve teens at the Club at the Y in the Sheboygan YMCA and both youth and teens at the Sheboygan Falls Clubhouse.
